As part of the commitment to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in an environmentally sustainable way there was a strong emphasis in achieving energy and water saving during the construction of the Moses Mabhida Stadium.  The purpose of this open forum is to present on overview of key energy and water savings initiatives that were implemented in the stadium.   The Open Forum will start with two 30 minute presentations  

  • Ken Woodley: Moses Mabhida Stadium Energy Saving Initiatives
  • Ganny Govender: Wet Services Engineering

The presentations will then be followed by questions and discussion.  Copies of the Greening Guidelines (Green Landscaping, Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Waste Management and Water Conservation) will also be available at the presentation.    The Greening guidelines can be downloaded from www.imaginedurban.org or fifaworldcup.durban.gov.za/Pages/GreeningDurban2010 

Information on the Speakers 

Ken Woodley – is the managing director of Ibuya Consulting Engineers, which is an Electrical and Electronic Consulting Practice who were the lead Electrical and Electronic Consultants for the Moses Mabhida Stadium.  Ken was the responsible person for the design of the electrical and electronic systems within the Stadium which included the implementation of an Energy Efficient Stadium in conjunction with the other professionals.  Ken has been involved in the electrical consulting field for the past 20 years and completed many buildings in the Durban area as well as some buildings in Cape Town, Johannesburg and even India.  His emphasis has always been using new technologies to reduce energy consumption, and is presently involved in numerous energy efficiency projects for existing buildings.

Ganny Govender – completed his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at the Durban University of Technology in 1983 and immediately thereafter started his working career at Langford Associates Consulting Engineers as a Mechanical Technician. He eventually graduated to the post of Design Engineer in 1995 and was elected partner in the business in 1997. He served in that post until 2002 where he obtained his PR Tech qualifications and left Langford Associates. He together with Morgan Govender formed LSG INTERNATIONAL Consulting Engineers, with Ganny being the Principal Partner.  Ganny has worked on many flagship projects in Durban, some being the Ushaka Marine World, Sibaya Casino and most recently as the Lead Mechanical Consultant on the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Every month BESOC will be hosting an information evening. An informal evening where attendees can hear about ways to paint their lives a deeper shade of green.

This month Richard from Breathing Space will be joining us as Guest Speaker at BESOC's Monthly Talk. He will be telling us all about Sustainable Living.
This is an informal meeting and all are allowed. Please bring your friends and family to hear all about it.
